Workshop Description

During this one-day creative immersion artists will explore the tools and techniques of the hand printed monotype process using acrylic paint on a gelatin plate. This will include a guided interpretation of landscape imagery/design with ample opportunity to learn together. No advanced skills required, just a willingness to get messy and embrace the unexpected. Participants will investigate monotype fundamentals from registration, format and design to the impact of line and organic texture through additive and subtractive experimental mark making and a final application of soft pastel.

About the Instructor

Marianne Calenda is a painter/printmaker who captures glimpses of the Lancaster County landscape through a distinctive emphasis on abstraction, texture, layering and expressive mark making. She is inspired by our interconnectedness with a fragile, natural world and its power to heal and transport.

Marianne’s work has been recognized by the American Tonalism Society, the Maryland Federation of Art, the Lancaster Art Museum and other regional galleries and art associations.
